Elevation Outdoors Reviews The Originals!

December 10, 2023

First, these are not “dad jeans.” But they do have a nice, comfy fit that silly hipster skinny jeans can’t offer. Made from stretchy Schoeller soft shell, they can deal with a little bouldering session or a hike with the pooch followed directly by a night out.

Sierra Magazine Takes a Look at THE ORIGINALS!

December 09, 2023

These Swiss Softshell Jeans from Thunderbolt Sportswear can pass for black denim in any casual restaurant. But their Schoeller Dryskin fabric--used most often in ski and rock-climbing pants--is the antithesis of cotton, making them water-repellent, abrasion-resistant, sweat-wicking, quick-drying, and super-stretchy.

Great Look at Thunderbolt by The Clymb

September 01, 2023

Here in Portland, we like clothing that’s as functional as it is fashionable. Enter  Thunderbolt Sportswear, a homegrown, Oregon-based company that has been selling its high-end softshell jeans since 2010 and perfecting and developing that concept since 2008.  These guys know the ins and outs of variable weather conditions, and the result is a high-functioning, well-thought-out style piece that can double as an everyday pant.

Adventure Spirit Guides put Thunderbolts to the test!

Finally, field-ready clothing that comes on as casual!  My pair arrived in early September—perfect timing, as these are an ideal autumn climbing pant.  The Schoeller Dryskin fabric is thicker and warmer than your average jeans, but far stretchier and more performance-oriented.  Plus, if a squall blows in you won’t be caught out in the cold with its Nanosphere DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Explore magazine finds their dream pants!

February 13, 2023

These are a dream come true for me. I love the way jeans look, but I hate how they suck up water and let wind blow right through them. Thunderbolt took Schoeller Nanosphere soft shell with a hard face treatment to cut wind and offer better water protection. Then they cut and styled the fabric into a pair of jeans. The result is a super comfortable - four way stretch - highly weatherproof pair of jeans look a likes. They look great and could be worn in a lot of different situations including hikes or climbs. They're the ultimate for walking the dog or casual Fridays. Pricey, but worth it.

Gear Junkie talks Action Pants!

The special fabric, called Schoeller’s Dryskin withNanoSphere, has those aforementioned nano-size particles to prevent dirt and grime from sticking. Liquid beads and rolls off the Schoeller fabric. In the case of these jeans, this could include light rain on a hike or, perhaps, spilled red wine at a restaurant after an adventure. Thunderbolt says its jeans are “blurring the line between sportswear and street wear.”

The GearCaster takes a look!

November 19, 2023

Jeans are very popular these days for climbing, hiking and bike commuting but cotton denim doesn't exactly offer you any weather protection. Oregon company Thunderbolt has taken classic outdoor fabric and created a pair of soft shell jeans, resulting in the perfect stylish outdoor pant.

Fitness Travel Gear talks Thunderbolts!

Yes, these pants are pricey, but they're well worth it. I've worn $100 so-called sportswear pants that claim to offer the same type of moisture management and weather protection and been disappointed in the material more than a few times. Schoeller fabrics are top quality and hold up well after repeated use over the long haul.
